Shirley Jeannette (Welch) Alewine

Shirley Jeannette Welch Alewine, born on February 26, 1940, the daughter of Velma Compton Welch and John Welch, peacefully passed away on January 29th, 2024.  Shirley shared 64 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved late husband, Eugene (Gene) Alewine.

Shirley is survived by her loving daughter, Cindy Alewine Drake (Keith).  Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren:  Kelli Drake Lathem (Jon), Kandice Drake Ivarie (Josh), and Andrew Drake (Anna).  Shirley was also a proud great-grandmother to four wonderful grandchildren.

Together, Shirley and Eugene were the proud owners of multiple businesses including Precision Manufacturing, Inc. in Athens, Farmhouse Antiques and 13 North Main in Watkinsville.  Shirley enjoyed traveling, antiquing, watching Jeopardy, visiting casinos, and most importantly spending time with family.  She had an eye for detail, a true gift for decorating and a passion for her projects.  Shirley never met a stranger, and loved talking with every person she encountered.  She is remembered by her friends and family for her spunkiness and determined grit in life.

Private burial will be held for the family.
