Athens, GA - Shannon Pilon McNeeley, adored mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, godmother and great lady, died Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the age of 65.
Born in Cleveland, OH in 1947, Shannon was the eldest daughter of eight children; on November 17, 2012, Shannon joined her belated parents Lester and Margaret "Pat" Pilon and her beloved little brother Mitchell J. Pilon to help watch over their family forever and ever.
Shannon retired from the radiology department of St. Mary's Hospital in 2000, and spent the better part of her life doing the things she loved most - painting, drawing, sewing, writing and cooking for those she loved.
Shannon grew up with her seven siblings in rural Ohio. The whole family moved to Athens, Georgia in 1970 and started a new life. Shannon began a family of her own and developed a vast community of friends, colleagues, and admirers from all walks and ages.
She is survived by entirely too many to mention, but there are four special people who will always call her "My Mother:" Jeremy McNeeley, Meghan McNeeley (husband Travis Perkins), Matthew McNeeley (wife Hillary Gaunt), and Ryan McNeeley, all of the Athens area. Michael Pilon, Eileen Pilon Bromley, Mark Pilon, Sean Pilon, Kevin Pilon and Pegeen Weinhold will miss their sister tremendously. Her grandchildren (Aiden Michael McNeeley, Ayden Lux Perkins and Sullivan Joseph McNeeley) as well as numerous nieces and nephews will all say good night prayers for Nana and Aunt Shannon for years and years to come.
The family will receive friends at the Lord and Stephens Funeral Home East at 4355 Lexington Road, Athens, GA, Tuesday, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 21st at St Joseph's Catholic Church at 134 Prince Avenue, Athens, GA,.
