It is with a very heavy heart and deepest sorrow that we announce that on March 5, 2021, our sweet daughter Shannon Stuart Glikin lost her long-time battle with depression.
She was truly the most wonderful daughter a parent could possibly ask for: she was a beautiful, brilliant, kind, and compassionate soul who always thought of others before herself.
She did not have a specific religious affiliation but respected all faiths. She did relate most closely to the doctrines of Buddhism and as such, she believed that nature and humanity can only exist in love, harmony, and respect, beginning with one’s self.
She spoke three languages: English, Spanish, and Korean, and was in the process of teaching herself Arabic at the time of her passing. Using her language skills, she tutored English to young immigrant children. Through the Academy of Sports Medicine, she became a Certified Professional Trainer, worked as a fitness instructor, and kept herself in great physical shape. She also worked for a payroll company and enjoyed every job she ever held as well as all her coworkers.
She enjoyed long hikes in nature and loved animals. Generously and graciously, she supported important causes such as Nuçi's Space, the ACLU, and various environmental and animal welfare organizations.
Shannon leaves behind her parents: Lesley Stuart Smith and Eduardo Daniel Glikin; her half-sisters Koren Walker Raymond and Kelley Walker Glikin; and Mary Grace Hulett with whom she shared her half-sisters. She also leaves behind her uncle David Gordon Stuart and aunt Dale Gordon Stuart; her aunt Monica Viviana Emgee and uncle Jimmy Emgee; her niece and nephew Shiloh and Tate Raymond; and her grandmother Juana Glikin.
Our family has lost an integral piece of our structure, but we are so very grateful for the time we had with her! We will use her bright light to guide us forth with love and positivity. Fly in peace, our dear, sweet Shugaboo. We will forever love you.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 23, at Nuçi's Space in Athens at 1:00 p.m.
