Athens - Sara Ruth Warnes, 30, died Friday, October 21, 2005 at her residence with her family by her side.
Born July 11, 1975, in Athens, GA, Sara was the daughter of James C. and Carol Leyden Warnes. A graduate of Cedar Shoals High School and Columbus State University with a B.S. in Nursing, Sara was a registered nurse on active duty with the US Air Force. Her most recent posting was in the maternity ward at Lakenheath Royal Air Force Base in England. Sara was a member at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the churchís mission program.
Survivors include her parents, James C. and Carol Leyden Warnes of Athens, sisters, Nell Warnes of Houston, TX, and Kathryn Warnes of Athens, maternal grandfather, George H. Leyden of Athens, and paternal grandmother, Paula Warnes of Guntersville, AL.
A memorial service was held, 3 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2005, at Chapelwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Thom Shores officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials in memory of Sara may be made to Doctors Without Borders, The Loran Smith Cancer Center, or Chapelwood United Methodist Church.
