Sara Anne Williams Stephens died June 5, 2008. Born December 5, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Carey Jones Williams and Celeste Copeland Williams of Greensboro, Ga. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Thomas Wade Stephens.
Mrs. Stephens attended Wesleyan College in Macon before transferring to the University of Georgia where she earned a BA degree in history. She was a member of Phi Mu sorority.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker, and was an avid gardener and gifted flower arranger. She was a devoted member of the Junior Ladies Garden Club, and held a number of leadership positions in the organization. She was president of the Athens Junior Assembly (Junior League of Athens), and was active in the Alumnae Club of the Phi Mu Sorority, serving as rush adviser for many years.
In later years, Mrs. Stephens enjoyed a successful career as the administrative assistant to Bob and Maxine Burton at burton and BURTON, retiring after 15 years of service.
Mrs. Stephens is survived by her two sons and their families: Wade Williams Stephens and his wife, Ami, and their sons, Wade Williams Stephens Jr. (Will) and Taylor Howard Stephens of Marietta; and Carey Thomas Stephens and his wife, Stacy, and their sons, Carey Thomas Stephens Jr. (Bo) and Henry Hall Stephens (Hank) of Atlanta. Also surviving is Mrs. Stephens' brother, Carey Jones Williams Jr. of Greensboro. A number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Oconee Hill Cemetery.
