Samuel Ray Wheless

Samuel Ray Wheless, 70, died Tuesday, May 26, 2020. Born in Athens and life long resident of Oglethorpe County, Ray was the son of the late Joseph H. Wheless and Lula Catherine Thomas Wheless. Ray was retired from the Oglethorpe County School System where he worked as a teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principle and in adult education. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a member and deacon of Sandy Cross Baptist Church.

Survivors include four siblings: Evelyn Carlisle of Athens, Willie Lee Nation of Crawford, Thomas (Chong S.) Wheless of Lexington and Kay (Mike) Smith of Union Point and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 2PM at Sandy Cross Cemetery.
