Athens - Samuel A. Burnley, Jr., 77, died Sunday, April 23, 2006. A native of Dublin, GA, Mr. Burnley was the son of the late Samuel and Susie Willis Burnley. He was married to Aileen Exum Burnley until her death in 1992. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Sandra Jordan Burnley. Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Burnley of Albany, GA and a son, Dr. Clay Burnley of Athens, GA. Other survivors include his sister, Barbara Burnley Hardy of Macon, GA, and three grandchildren of Watkinsville, GA.
Mr. Burnley wished to be cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date. For the past four years he was living in Athens at Iris Place Retirement Center. For many years prior to that, Mr. Burnley lived in Atlanta and owned Burnley Equipment Co. Inc. As a young man he proudly served our nation in both the United States Navy and The United States Marine Corps. Mr. Burnley saw combat as a marine in the Korean War.
