Athens - Ruthann Cruce Benyshek, wife of Dr. Larry Benyshek, died Sunday July 6, 2008 after battling cancer.
Ruthann was born June 24, 1948 in Okemah, Okla. She received both her B.A and M.A degrees in English at Oklahoma State University and moved to Statesboro in 1975 where she taught high school briefly before moving to Athens in 1976. Ruthann worked for the University of Georgia at the Institute of Government, COSMIC and University Computing and Networking Services until her retirement in 2003. She was an incredibly giving person and spent many years volunteering locally for the American Heart Association and the Athens Regional Library.
Ruthann is survived by her daughter, Kelly Jones, husband, Larry and his children, Tasha and James Benyshek; granddaughter, Elizabeth Benyshek; brothers, Charles Cruce and Jerald Cruce; sisters-in-law, Carma, Marlene and Barbara Cruce; and her mother, Kathleen Cruce. She is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Cruce and father, Bill Cruce.
A celebration of Ruthann's life will be held at the University of Georgia's Botanical Gardens Chapel on Friday, July 11 at 5:30 pm. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 10 from 7-9 pm at Lord and Stephens, EAST, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens, GA 30605.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Athens Regional Medical Center's Palliative Care Services, 1199 Prince Ave., Athens, GA 30606.
