Ruth G. Piatek, 90, of Athens died Saturday, July 20, 2013.
She was born April 29, 1923 to the late William Thomas Bell and Ruhmell Swindle Bell of Athens.
Ruth met Edward Joseph Piatek in the early 1940's while he was attending school in Athens. They married and moved to Eddie's hometown in Manchester, New Hampshire after he was discharged from the Army. Upon his death in 1954, Ruth relocated back to Athens. She worked in retail for a number of years and she owned and operated Dixie Radio and TV and Deep South Restaurant. She was a member and past President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, sisters Grace Bell Mitchell and Betty Sue Bell and brother, William "Buddy" Bell all of Athens. She is survived by two sons, Ronald Piatek and David Piatek (Arretta) of Athens, one granddaughter, Donna Piatek Kortes (Matt) and two great grandchildren, Suzanna and Cortney Kortes of Savannah.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Lord and Stephens, WEST.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Ruth's memory to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 111454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to UniHealth Heritage and staff for the excellent and gentle care, support and love given to "Miss Ruth" during her time at the facility.
Lord and Stephens, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
