Ruth Loughridge Nutt went to be with her Lord on January 12, 2012. Ruth was born in Bunnell, Florida, on April 22, 1917, to Edward Brainard Loughridge and Mabel Wylie Loughridge. She grew up in Georgia, graduated from Blackshear High School and in 1938 graduated from Georgia State Woman's College, now known as Valdosta State University. After teaching for a year, she moved to Griffin, Georgia, where she met the love of her life, Richard Lamar Nutt, whom she married in 1940. Ruth was a devoted wife who followed her husband in his career as a general practice medical doctor and later anesthesiologist. His career moves took them to Augusta, Georgia, Spartanburg, S.C., Jeffersonville, Milledgeville, Darien, and Valdosta, Georgia. They retired to Hahira, Georgia. Her final months were spent living with her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Wayne Turnbull, in Watkinsville, Georgia. Ruth was involved in her community and her church, First Presbyterian Church. She was a Sunday School Teacher, Women's Circle Moderator and Elder. She was instrumental in starting the prayer ministry, PALMS, and the Break Bread (meal delivery) program. In her later days, she volunteered for Break Bread, L.A.M.P. (Lowndes Association Ministries to People), the South Georgia Regional Library, and other community organizations.
Ruth enjoyed her family very much and was their constant and effective prayer warrior. She had a great love of books, especially the Bible. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, and her sister, Jean Loughridge Alexander. She is survived by her five children, Dr. & Mrs. Richard Nutt Jr. (Bonnie) of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, Dr. & Mrs. James E. Nutt (Nancy) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Mrs. Nancy Turnbull (John Wayne Turnbull) of Watkinsville, Georgia, Evelyn Nutt of Crawford, Georgia, and Mrs. Janis Lee (Richard Lee) of Hahira, Georgia, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two nieces, and her beloved dog, Sweetie, and many, many friends.
