Ruth R. Heaton, 92, died peacefully on February 15, 2012.
Born June 3, 1919, in Amherst County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Ruth Mac Roberts. She was a WWII veteran, served in the SPARs, which was the women's branch of the US Coast Guard. Sue retired from the Duval County Schools, having taught elementary school at the Beaches for many years. She was active in "Singers-by-the Sea" choral group, Habitat for Humanity, Meals-on-Wheels and Member of St. Paul's-By-the-Sea Episcopal Church.
Survivors include two daughters: Katherine Heaton Daye, Atlantic Beach, FL, and Sally Heaton Dowling, of Athens, GA; five grandchildren: Lily C. Davis, of Atlanta GA; Mary Katherine Hogan, of Gainesville, GA; Gabrielle LeMaistre, of Athens, GA; L. Andrew Daye and Jesse A. Daye, both of Atlantic Beach, FL;
four great grandchildren: Hanna James, of Gainesville, GA; Emma Ruth Daye and Nora Irene Daye, of Atlantic Beach, FL; and Eli Davis, of Atlanta, GA.
A private remembrance will be held at a later date.
