Russell Albert (Al) Sanders moved his membership from Galilee Christian Church to Glory on June 6, 2015. He suffered a severe injury on June 5, 2015 from which he could not recover.
Al was born in Danielsville, Georgia on October 9, 1935 to the late Ralph A. Sanders and Allene Higginbotham Sanders. He graduated from Danielsville High School and he was a veteran of the U. S. Army.
On October 15, 1983, he married the love of his life, Shirley Parten Sanders. They formed a partnership that never wavered and they never looked back. They resided in Oconee County for 31 years and built a life that revolved around their home and family.
In 1998, Al retired from Garret Paving Company. He and Shirley then began a life of RVing and travel that took them on adventures covering every state but five, including Hawaii and Alaska. They even managed to squeeze in a six-week trip to Canada.
Al had a gentle spirit and was an unselfish man who loved God, his family, church, and most everyone he met. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He never met a stranger and once you met him, you were his friend. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, traveling and Georgia football. He became a Bulldog fan late in life, but once he did, he loved everything Georgia. One of the highlights of his life every year was attending the Georgia-Florida football game.
Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Shirley; daughters, Linda P. Sherrer (Charles) and Martha P. Lee (Jay); grandchildren Adam Lee (Jennifer), Nathan Lee (Amy), Sarah Lee Johnson (Ron); and great granddaughter, Ava Grace Lee; brothers Edward Sanders (Fay) and Bobby Sanders (June); niece Dawn D'Appollonio (Joe) and their children Morgan and Conner; nephew, Rob Sanders and his daughter, Lilly; and his beloved dog, Bobo. He is also survived by several cousins and innumerable friends.
