Watkinsville - Russell Larkin Calhoun, Sr., 78, passed away January 13, 2008.
A native of Newland, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Roy Calhoun and Oma Chaney. Mr. Calhoun retired from the United States Navy and was a member of Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints of Athens, GA. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his artistic talents and inventiveness. Mr. Calhoun sung for many years with the Athens Barber Choir and was very proud of a wrote a book entitled " Lost Heritage" which described the lives of the residents of Butler, TN when their town was flooded for a dam to be built by the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 17, 2008, at 2:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Athens, GA. Interment will be in Oconee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, June Calhoun; two sons and daughter-in-law, Russell L. Calhoun, Jr. of Athens; Ronald and Martha Frye Calhoun of Charlotte, NC; sister, Shelby Jean Carroll of Elizabethton, TN; three brothers, Raymond Calhoun of Hampton, TN, Harvey Calhoun of Akron, OH, John Calhoun of Hampton, TN; grandchild Jackson Lee Calhoun of Charlotte, NC; stepmother, Ethel Calhoun of Hampton, TN.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
