Lord and Stephens Funeral Home in Athens announces the death of Ruby Reynolds Smith of Athens. Mrs. Smith passed away in the early morning hours of September 6, 2006.
Mrs. Smith was born in McDuffie County on August 23, 1917 to parents Alfonzo Cornelius and Effie Lexie Reynolds. Mrs. Smith has resided in Athens for 80 years. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, her six sisters, and one brother. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Harriett Pahlck and Rick Smith of Smyrna, GA and two granddaughters Camille Smith of Atlanta, GA and Julie Smith of Atlanta, GA as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Smith was an active member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church where she was a member of the Faith Bible Study Class. During her early career, at the time of World War II, Mrs. Smith worked at Climax and Rogers Hosiery Mills. Mrs. Smith was the dental assistant for twenty years to Dr. James B. Allen, DDS.
The memorial service will be held at Prince Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday, September 9 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Doug Nix and Rev. Randy Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service at 10 a.m. in the church's Fellowship Hall. The burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens. Pallbearers are nephews Bennie English, Ned Couch, Rick Reynolds, Keith Reynolds, Greg Smith and Mitch Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jere Nunn, Dwain Chambers, Ralph Almond, Herb Logan and members of the Faith Bible Study Class.
