Watkinsville - Rowland Jefferson Teasley Sr., 71, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008.
A native of Hart County, Ga., Mr. Teasley was a son of the late Laura Elizabeth Brown and Clyde Brown Teasley Sr. and was also preceded in death by his sister, Grace Dudley. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge and a former member of the Athens Chapter 268 Order of the Eastern Star.
R. J. was an avid country music fan and singer. He appeared as guest singer and played backup with Jack Green, Bill Anderson, Carl Butler, Merle Haggard, and Wynn Stewart, et. al. He was D. J. at several radio stations and was named D.J. USA at WSM in Nashville, Tenn.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST with Rev. Richard Moeller officiating. There will be a Masonic graveside service at 3 p.m. at Bethesda United Methodist Church in the Nuberg Community in Hart County.
Survivors include his former wife, Vivian Teasley; three children, Jeff Teasley of Watkinsville, Ga., Rod Teasley of Nashville, Tenn., and Terri Teasley of Smyrna, Ga.; two sisters, Bertha Ann Cail of Redding, Mass., Shirley Moore of Greensboro, Ga.; brother, Clyde Brown Teasley Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandsons, Sam Teasley and Daniel Teasley.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Masonic Children's Home or American Diabetes Association.
