Winterville - R.D. Christian, 87, died Sunday, March 8, 2009.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 11 a.m. at East Athens Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Werzer and Rev. Don Leaptrott officiating. Burial will follow at Athens Memory Gardens.
A native of Madison County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Blanche Wehunt Christian. He worked in construction as a plumber and steamfitter, farmer and served his country in the US Navy during WWII. R.D. was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 72 and East Athens Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice Mills Christian of Winterville; four children, Barbara C. Lambert of Warner Robins, Ga., Daniel Mills Christian of Sugarland, Texas, Joyce C. May of Kathleen, Ga., and Kay C. Denenberg of Lawrenceville, Ga.; brother, Hollis Christian of Kannapolis, N.C.; eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2009 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Athens Baptist Church.
