Rooney Wilson, 69, died peacefully at his home on August 3, 2015 after a seventeen year battle with cancer.
Mr. Wilson was born in Paducah, KY to the late Esther Barker and Chester Wilson. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Erin Leigh Wilson and six siblings, Cloys Wilson, June Harper, Joe Ben Wilson, Loy David Wilson, Carolyn Cox and Larry Wilson.
He was a graduate of David Lipscomb College and the University of Tennessee. Mr. Wilson served as a minister in churches and communities in Nashville, TN, Knoxville, TN, Burlington, MA, Caribou, ME and for twenty years was the pastor of the Church of Christ in Crawford, GA. He served on the boards of The Oglethorpe County Board of Education, Athens Area Habitat for Humanity and Palmetto Bible Camp in Marietta, SC.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 4:00 PM at Campus View Church of Christ, 1360 South Lumpkin Street, Athens, GA 30605, with Eric Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Crawford Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years, Ruth Sellers Wilson; daughter, Andrea (Charles) Ash of Stephens, GA and their children, Kerry, Savannah, Jonathan, Zachary, Benjamin, Christopher, Samuel and Mary Heather; daughter, Alana (Charlie) Jarrett of Lima, Peru and their children, Mia and Madeleine; son, Eric (Laura) Wilson of Crawford and their children, Sophia, Ethan, Ian and Noah; son, Evan (Amanda) Wilson of Holly Ridge, NC and their children, Jacob, Luke, Michael, Sarah and Evan's daughter Hope and her son, James; son, Adam (Jennifer) Wilson of Lexington and their children, Caitlin, Cassidy, Caleb, Conner, Caroline and Carson; grandson, Terrance Harden; two sisters, LaVern Hunter and Faye Jean Williams; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Rooney Wilson will be remembered as a man who lived his life loving and serving the Lord and others.
