Ronald Coleman Smith, 85, died peacefully at home on January 4, 2025. He was born in Gaffney, SC; moved to Gastonia, NC, as a youngster; and spent most of his adult life in Charlotte, NC. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Cole and Nelle Motts Smith; two sisters, Marilyn McCurry and Sandra Jackson; and his middle son, Drew Robinson Smith. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Sansing; two sons, Derek Coleman Smith and Justin Whelchel Smith; the mother of his children, Helen Howard; six grandchildren; sister, Ellen Vance; and brother, Larry Smith.

After completing his ABJ at The University of Georgia, where he was a member of the singing group, The Gates, Ron began his work life in Advertising and Public Relations. He commuted from Charlotte to New York City for 12 years, then left Charlotte and returned to Athens in 2004, just prior to retiring. He was an eternal optimist, an enthusiastic and loyal Georgia Bulldog, a snappy dresser, and a loving husband and father.
