Ronald Alvin "Ron" Deal

Ronald (Ron) Alvin Deal, Jr., age 91, of Bogart, Ga., passed away on Dec. 29, 2012.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Jan 2, 2012, at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, 1211 Jimmie Daniel Road, Bogart, GA. Rev. Parker Benson of Bethlehem First United Methodist Church will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 PM to 2:15 PM, Jan 2, 2013, at the funeral home prior to the service. His ashes will be scattered at his gravesite in Emporia, VA, at a later date.
Ron was born in Emporia, VA on Nov 10, 1921. He graduated from Greensville County High School, then went on to the Naval Academy, where he graduated in 1943.
Ron served in the Navy as an officer for 23 years, including wartime duty on the battleship New Jersey and many years as a seaplane pilot after the war. He retired from the Navy in 1966 with the rank of Commander. He then moved to Atlanta, GA, where he worked for Lockheed for 20 years as an electrical engineer. While working, he attended Georgia State University and received Masters in Education degree in 1975.
He retired from Lockheed in 1986, and returned to Emporia, VA. There he designed and built his own house, pursued his hobby of woodworking, was active in the Lion's Club and participated in the restoration of an 18th century plantation house, Village View.
Ron is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, the former Elva Lloyd Everett of Emporia, VA, and his brother, Eugene Deal of Emporia, VA. He is survived by his brother, Harold (and wife Mary Frances) Deal of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his daughter, Patricia D. Deal, of Highland, NY; his son, Ronald L. (and wife Bonnie) Deal, Sr., of Statham, GA; three grandchildren, Ronald L (and wife Suzanne) Deal, Jr. of Watkinsville, GA; Allen J. (and wife Marcelle) Deal of Irmo, SC; Melanie D. (and husband Robert) Hale of Marietta, GA; and seven great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Monumental United Methodist Church, 300 Southampton St, Emporia, VA 23847 or to St Mary's Hospice House, Attention: Catena Brown, 1660 Jennings Mill Rd, Bogart, GA 30622.
