Roger Bradley Winston Jr

February 25, 1943 — November 4, 2017

It is with great sadness that I (Pat Graham Winston) report to you the death of my dear husband, Roger Winston. Roger was born on February 25, 1943 and he passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Roger was raised in Elba, Alabama. He was the only child of the late Burnease and Roger B. Winston, Sr.
Roger graduated from Auburn University and then received his MA and PhD from the University of Georgia. He was drafted by the Army during the Vietnam War and served for two years in Korea.
Most of his professional career was spent in the College of Education as a Professor in the Student Affairs Administration program in the department of Counseling and Human Development Services, at UGA. He loved his job, and kept in contact with many of his students. He was a prolific writer and was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by his professional organization, The American College Personnel Association.
Since he had no children of his own, he embraced my sons Nick and Tommy Graham as if they were his own. He loved it when their children, Lois, Natalie, Austin, Carter, and Savanna came to visit. Their laughter made him laugh too. The family will hold a private celebration of his life at a later date.
I would like to express my thanks to St. Mary's Hospice for not only helping Roger, but giving comfort to me also. And thanks to his caregivers, Leah Williams, Joycelynn Darden, and Jessica Kimbrell who were always by his side. I could not have made it without their help.
Nobody has ever loved me as much as Roger loved and took care of me. Our many travels together were such a joy. Roger also loved his dogs! His miniature schnauzer, Buddy and I will both miss Roger greatly.
