Our 80-year old vibrant, God & family centered Grandpa Roger Resler was called Home on July 20, 2016. Although he had crossed GA-400 millions of times to drive 4 miles to visit his granddaughters, on May 30, 2016 his truck was tboned and he was not able to recover.
My Dad was born in Wathena, Kansas during the Depression Era. He grew up using cardboard to extend the life of his shoes & setting up bowling ball pins to help the family. Dad was only 3 when he lost his Dad William Resler & 10 when he lost his Mom Wilma Resler. At 18 he signed up to serve our Country in the Air Force. Senior Master Sargent Resler was stationed in Alaska, Greenland, England, & Arizona.
Upon retiring from the Air Force, he became a Marine Electrician. Ever the Handyman, he believed it was his Christian duty to repair neighbors' TVs, VCRs, roofs, cars, etc... .for free.
Every summer we were tent camping and water skiing, every winter we were skiing in Tahoe. I remember we were always together as a family.
He was the best Grandpa who never missed a basketball, softball, nor soccer game. He would pull up on his Trike to have a front row seat on the Central Park grass soccer field. Grandpa loved teaching his granddaughters about God, Algebra, electricity, every sport, card games, & how to dance the twist.
Dad is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Mitha Resler, son Dino Resler, daughter Cindy (& Mark) Hagen, & son Roger (& Carrie) Resler Schindler. He loved his 5 Grandchildren: Arianna & Hannah Hagen and Bradley, Owen, & Analeah Resler Schindler. Dad loved going to Reunions to visit family including his sisters Joan Evans(RIP) and Sharelle Blevins and brothers Ronnie & Larry Resler. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins. His best friends were the Preacher (Lee Ayers), Sam DiAntonio & Cruise.
Describing Dad: God, family, generous, athletic, fierce competitor, too many jokes & stories to share, handyman, always working on his cars, & love.
Dad believed in living life to the fullest. If you want a 1931 Model A Ford, buy it! Tell jokes to everyone you meet to bring a smile to their worlds. Share the Word of God. Help your neighbor without any expectation. Honor God, your family, & your Country.
In lieu of flowers, you are invited to surprise a neighbor with a random act of kindness and read 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8.
Family & Friends are invited to celebrate Dad's Life at his Funeral Mass followed by a Reception in the Church Hospitality Room: 3PM Sat., July 30, 2016 Good Shepherd Catholic Church 3740 Holtzclaw Rd Cumming, GA 30041
