Crawford - Roger Lewis Lanier, 91, died May 14, 2011. Born in White Plains, he was the son of the late Walter S. and Gertrude Smith Lanier, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris Taylor Lanier, in 2004. A longtime resident of Atlanta, he retired from Georgia Power following 42 years of service, and was a member and past president of Georgia Power Ambassadors. While in Atlanta, he was a longtime member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church. Mr. Lanier had made his home in Crawford since 1987, and was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church and the Co/Workers Sunday School Class. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. Survivors include his daughters, Rebecca Brown, of Crawford, Connie (Mark) Schumacher, of Southington, Conn., and Rhonda (David) Moye, of Senoia; siblings, LaTrelle Ethridge, of Comer, Harold Lanier, of Clermont, Rene Lanier, of Dalton, Agnes Perry, of Macon, and Rozzie Lanier, of Crawford; grandchildren, Leigh (Bob) Hamilton, Ben Schumacher, Luke Schumacher, Timothy Schumacher, Madison Moye, Zachary Moye, and Taylor Moye; great-grandchildren, Connor Hamilton and Trevor Hamilton, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Tuckston United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Wiley Carney and Herb Owen and Mr. Roger Ethridge officiating. Interment will be in Crawford Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ben Schumacher, Luke Schumacher, Timothy Schumacher, Zachary Moye, Madison Moye, Taylor Moye, Connor Hamilton, Trevor Hamilton, Jeremy Brubaker and Joseph Brubaker. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Tuckston Co/Workers Sunday School Class and Georgia Power Ambassadors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Georgia Power Ambassadors, 205 Wells Dr., Athens, GA 30606.
