Rodolph Augustus Gilmore Jr., age 89, of Bishop, GA passed away peacefully on November 10th, 2021, after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Rod was born on April 3rd, 1932, along with his twin sister, Janet, to Rodolph and Marie Gilmore in Dumont, New Jersey. He graduated from Bogota High School in 1950 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951. He trained in the Spartan School of Aeronautics as an aircraft electrician and served during the Korean War. He met his wife Bobbie Barfield during his last year of service while at Moody Airforce Base in Valdosta, GA, and they were married on August 7th, 1955.
Rod will be remembered as someone who was always willing to help others and could fix anything. His love of sharing the gospel with others, telling them of Jesus’ love for them will be remembered by many.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bobbie Barfield Gilmore; three children, Rod Gilmore (Loretta), Susan Collar, and Mark Gilmore (Allison): two sisters, Marie Nickerson and Janet Castner; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 12:30 P.M. November 15th at Oconee Chapel with a graveside service at 1:00 P.M. at Oconee Memorial Park in Watkinsville, GA.
