Robert “Bob” Clay England, 83, of Athens, died on Monday, November 7, 2022.
A lifelong resident of the Athens area, Robert was the son of Fred Thomas England and Annie Inez Spence England. He graduated from Athens High School in 1956 and then worked for Westinghouse, England Electric, Reliance Electric, and Smith’s Cabinet Shop. He retired from the University of Georgia Campus Mail in 2006. Robert also proudly served his country as a member of the Army National Guard.
A longtime member of Mars Hill Baptist Church, Robert was currently a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church. He was a loyal supporter of UGA Athletics, a member of the Georgia Bulldog Club and a season ticket holder for 60 years. He coached both Little League baseball for Burton Shoes and was a softball coach for MHBC and the Farmington softball travel team for many years.
Along with his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brothers, Don England and Michael England.
Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Linda Howington England; sons Terry (June) England and Kenneth (Christie) England; daughter Kathy (Ed) England Pollock; sister Dorothy Holcomb of Cleveland, GA; brothers Richard England of Hull and Rucker (Edna) England, also of Hull; grandchildren: Andrew England, Justin (Christina) England, Lauren England Thackston, Sean Michael England, Christopher (Kristen) Hamel, Richard Hamel, Devin Hamel, Brittany (Cody) Hamel Callaway, Noah England, Ashley (Michael) Ventry, Britton (Brogan) Poole, Kyle (Martha Jo) Dalton, Spence (Haley) Dalton, Lauren Pollock, and Jackson Pollock; great-grandchildren: Chelsea England, Luke Hamel, Logan Hamel, Liam Hamel, Lyla Callaway, Waylon Callaway, Crew Ventry, Peyton Dalton, Wyatt Dalton, Finn Dalton, and Parker Dalton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff at DaVita Dialysis Center for their care over the last four years, especially Chris Barineau, who was his primary nurse for his entire time with DaVita. They would also like to recognize the exceptional care that Robert received from his physicians and staff at various Athens-area offices.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Prince Avenue Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens, West Chapel on Wednesday evening from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Interment will follow the funeral service at Evergreen Memorial Park.
