Roberta Nelms Basham

Athens - Roberta N. Basham, age 95, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, November 23, 2011. She was born May 25, 1916, to Willie Martin and Walter F. Nelms in Danielsville, GA. She moved to Athens when she was three years old. She was a lifelong member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church for over eighty five years. She met the love of her life, Frank Basham in 1930 and they married in 1936. They celebrated 53 wonderful years together until his death in 1989.
She was a gifted china painting artist and enjoyed many other different types of painting and crafting. She will be remembered for her love of the Lord, love of her family and her loving kindness to all the lives she touched.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Francis Nelms, and Virginia Delay. She is survived by her son, Bobby Basham (Linda), grandson Mike Basham (Suzanne), and great granddaughter, Casey Basham.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 27, 2011 from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. with the Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Leland Basham, James Basham, Dick Carteaux, Brad Bailie, Jimmy Martin, and Mike Epps will serve as pallbearers.
