Bob White passed away unexpectedly on September 27, 2013. Bob was born in Atlanta and has lived in the Athens area most of his adult life. He received his Bachelors' degree from Florida State before serving 2 years in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He came home from the service and completed his Master's degree as well as his PhD in Entomology from the University of Georgia. He worked at UGA for several years before going on to teach at the George Walton Academy. For the last 16 years he worked as a poultry consultant for NIPCAM (Nolan Integrated Pest Control and Maintenance). One of Bob's greatest enjoyments was working with the Boy Scouts. He was an active troop leader and spent over 15 years working with Troop #80 in Watkinsville. He was also a member of Watkinsville First United Methodist Church. Bob's witty sense of humor and all knowing stories will be sorely missed. Bob leaves behind his only son, John Robert White; his mother Lorraine White King; his sister Karen Chambers; two nieces, Barbara Chambers Phillips and Becca Lamar; and many caring family members. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years Carol White and his father Robert Alton White, Sr. Visitation will be held on Sunday October 6th from 2-4pm at Watkinsville First United Methodist Church. A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will immediately follow the visitation. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to either The Northeast GA Eagle Scout Scholarship Fund or to the Athens Tech Foundation, Inc - Carol White Scholarship Fund. Lord & Stephens West is in charge of arrangements.
