Athens - Mr. Robert W. White, 89, of Athens, Ga., passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009.
Mr. White was born in Nashville, Tenn., to the late Joel Jesse and Virginia Armistead White. He was a veteran of WWII, during which he served in the United States Army as one of the first radar operators. After the war ended, he attended the University of California at Berkley and graduated in 1948. He retired from General Motors after 37 years of service. In retirement, Mr. White painted and studied painting at the University of Georgia.
Memorial services will be held on Friday July 31, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the family's residence, 4240 Bob Godfrey Road, Athens, GA 30605. Flowers may be sent to the residence.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret P. White, Athens; daughters, Kathryn Webb of Lexington, Ga., and Margaret Grayeski of Raritan, N.J.; sons, Joel Armistead White of Augusta, Ga., Dr. Robert Warren White Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M., and William Landreth White of Athens, Ga. He has eight grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His surviving brother is Harrison C. White of New York, N.Y.
Lord and Stephens, East, is in charge of arrangements.
