Bogart - Robert R. Venable, 78, passed away December 11, 2008.
A native of Jackson County, Illinois, he was a son of the late James Ray and Evelyn Weis Venable and was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Humphreys and brother, James Venable. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during the Korean War on board the USS Dyess. He was a deacon and elder of Watkinsville First Christian Church where he was a member of the choir and served on various committees over the years including Chairman of the Christian Education Program. He was a former mason and was owner and operator of Christian Roofing and Remodeling of Athens for fifteen years.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 15, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST. Revs. Doug Ivey, James Stephens and Ray Austin will officiate. Interment will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Venable; four children, Steven (Mary) Venable of Marion, Ill., Karen (Tim) Wessel of Silver Spring, Md., Nichole (Joe) Urash of Shelby, N.C., and Michael (Lori) McKeel of Winterville, Ga.; twelve grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
