Watkinsville - Robert Steven Bell, 49, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005.
Steve was born in Athens, Georgia on April 17, 1956, the son of Bobby and Martha Bell.
He grew up in Athens and graduated from Clarke Central High School in the class of 1974. During his high school years he played football for the Gladiators under Coach Billy Henderson, served as captain of Henderson's first team and played baseball for American Legion Post 185. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. While at the University, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
After graduation, Steve was employed by the Georgia Power Company in Hartwell, GA. He then took a position with Merrill Lynch as a financial analyst and was promoted to management with Merrill Lynch.
In 1999 he returned to the Athens area where he owned and operated Athens Marble and Design.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 18, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lord and Stephens, WEST. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Oconee Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Hoard officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Leesa Robison Bell; son, Robert Bradford "Brad" Bell; daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth "Betsy" Bell; parents, Bobby and Martha Bell; a brother, Jeff and his wife Tonya; 3 nephews and 1 niece, all of Watkinsville.
Mr. Bell held high principles in all aspects of his life. His leadership and strong work ethic impacted many lives. Because of this, the family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial be made to Oconee County High School Warrior Club Scholarship, P.O. Box 354, Watkinsville, GA, 30677 to be awarded to a deserving student.
