Athens - Robert E. (Bob) Skinner, 83, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2005.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janis Skinner of Athens; children, Marianne Wynne of Athens, Ruthie Mosley of Athens, Robert Skinner, Jr. of Marietta, Allen Skinner of Watkinsville, Amy Carter of Mechanicsville, VA; brother Malcolm Skinner of Athens; grandchildren, Janis Wynne, Christopher Skinner, Rachel, Chad, Kelley and Bethany Skinner and Adam and Joshua Carter.
He was born in Washington, GA, but spent most of his life in Athens. He graduated from the University of Georgia and earned a Masterís degree from Iowa State University. He served in World War II in the 20th Armored Division and was part of the occupation force in Munich, Germany. He continued his military service in the U.S. Army Reserves for 29 years and retired as a Major in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Russell Daniel Irrigation Company in Athens for many years. Mr. Skinner worked in the Agricultural Education Department at the University of Georgia for the last twelve years of his career. He has been retired since 1982.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 21, 2005, 3:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST. Rev. Carlos Sibley will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Watkinsville First Baptist Church.
