Athens - Robert Lee Ratcliff, 94, died Tuesday, January 05, 2010.
Born in Bailey, Mississippi, he was the son of the late James Robert and Leila Denton Ratcliff. Mr. Ratcliff worked in communications with Western Union for 28 years and retired from CSX Railroad. He was a member of the Order Of The Eastern Starr, Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge #22 in Athens, GA as well as Longstreet Masonic Lodge #268 in Meridian, MS. Bo loved music and was a charter member of the Classic City Band. In the 1940s he founded and led Bobby Lee's Orchestra.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Ridgeway Ratcliff; son: Reggie Ratcliff of Norcross, GA; daughter: Nancy Ratcliff Sain of Carrollton, TX; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 2PM at the Chapel of O.C. Barham Funeral Home, Meridian, MS with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Bailey, MS.
The family will receive friends in Athens, GA, Wednesday, January 6, 2010 from 6 to 8 at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East Chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge #22 in Athens, GA or Longstreet Masonic Lodge #268 in Meridian, MS.
