Robert Earnest “Bob” Jones, 87, of Athens passed away in his sleep on November 16th, 2024.
Bob was raised in Oglethorpe County by the late Albert Johnson and Martie Tiller Jones Johnson. The oldest child of the late Roy Jones and Martie, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Mary.
Bob is survived by his wife, Linda, 3 sons, Larry, Chuck, and Andy,4 grandchildren, Tanner, Chase, Connor, and Grayson, 2 sisters, Patsy and Tracy, and nieces and nephews.
Bob spent his life giving to society. From working as an EMT and Ambulance driver for St.Mary’s, to his primary work as firefighter, retiring as Sergeant from the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department (originally the Athens Fire Department, then the Clark County Fire Department). “Bobcat” was always willing to go the extra mile, including being one of the earliest operators of the “Jaws of Life” in the state, and was always proud of the work he and his brother/sisters did and continue to do for the community.
Bob wished to spend eternity on a beach, next to the rolling waves and his ashes will be spread there at a later date.
In lieu of funeral services, and to honor Bob’s life work, we ask that all who wish to participate make a memorial donation to the Georgia Firefighters Burn Fund via gfbf.org.
Lord and Stephens, WEST is in charge of arrangements.
