Robert Milton Herring, 83, passed away November 12, 2009.
A native of Oglethorpe County, he was preceded in death by his parents, John Albert and Roxie Herring and his first wife, Margaret Berrong Herring. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie Davis and Lizzie Mae Morrow and brother, Charlie Allison Herring.
Mr. Herring was the owner and operator of Herring Shoe Store for many years and was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church and was a also a retired minister.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Central Baptist Church with Revs. Joel S. Dover, Frank Meadows, Jr. and John Verschuren officiating. Interment will be in Colbert Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Lavon Herring; stepdaughter, Debbie Sickles; stepson, William David Smith, both of Athens; four step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.
