Athens - Robert E. Griffith, Sr., 83, passed away February 11, 2008.
A native of Douglas County, GA, he was a son of the late Samuel Albert and Bertha Thompson Griffith and the widower of Nancy Ann Paul Griffith.
Mr. Griffith was a veteran of the United States Army. He served in World War II as a paratrooper and was wounded while in New Guinea. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service. He graduated in 1949 from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. An avid Georgia Bulldog fan, Mr. Griffith enjoyed the same seats at Sanford Stadium since 1950.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST. Interment will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
Survivors include three children, Susan Burke of Athens, GA, Mark Griffith of Watkinsville, GA, Robbie Griffith of Commerce, GA; sister, Carolyn Griffith Jones of Austell, GA; five grandchildren, Julie Ann Griffith, Leigh Erin Griffith, Baily Diane Griffith, Robert Andrew Griffith and Taylor Christian Griffith.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, c/o Arbor Terrace, 3736 Atlanta Highway, Athens, GA 30606.
Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.
