Athens - Rita Arlene Fluke, 81, died November 4, 2009.
Born in Johnstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Warren and Edna (Logue) Hahn and was preceded in death by sisters, Laveda Suitor and Elsie Mae Hahn; and brother Bill Hahn, all from Johnstown, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, Allen Fluke of Everett, Pa.; daughter, Sharon Sanderson of Athens, Ga.; three sisters, Ruth Follmar, Helen Cassiday and Wanda Hawkins; nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many wonderful friends throughout Pennsylvania and Georgia, her faithful Pekinese companion, Buffy, and a lasting legacy of love.
Rita loved making new friends, designing floral arrangements and making people smile. Perhaps her happiest moment came in 1997 when she was reunited with her daughter, Sharon, after 50 years. Both felt this was God's great gift of love to them.
Rita is a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church in Watkinsville, Ga., and was recently attending Crooked Creek Baptist Church in Athens, Ga.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Lord & Stephens East in Athens, Ga., with Rev. Tom Miles officiating. Friends and family are invited to come celebrate her life and gather at the family's home following the service.
Her daughter expresses her deepest gratitude for the CSA's, nursing and hospice staff at Athens Heritage on Hawthorne Avenue. They brought Rita great joy and comfort during her long battle of cancer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Rita's memory to the Toccoa Falls Alumni Scholarship Fund, Toccoa Falls College, Toccoa, GA 30598; or to the Humane Society of Athens, Ga.
