Athens, GA- Richard David Murray, 53, died Sunday, December 5, 2010. He was born in Italy in 1957 into a military family. Richard was primarily a resident of Athens, GA as well as residing in Charlottesville, VA and Greenville, SC for many years.
Survivors include daughters, Kathleen and Mollie Murray, father John F.T. Murray, brothers John and William, sisters Mary Lynn, Sue Ann, and Sally, and granddaughters Charity and Virginia, both age 3. He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Roberts Murray in 1975. Other relatives include 11 nieces and nephews.
Richard was a graduate of Clarke Central High School class of 1976 and attended UGA. He was an avid sports fan and played soccer, tennis, football, and even scored 154 touchdowns on the field at the Athens YMCA. He spent much of his time listening to Braves games and writing. He also enjoyed reading Greek Mythology in Memorial Park with his daughter.
Services will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 11:30 am at St. Joseph's Church in Athens. The church may be contacted for more details.
