Richard Loran

Richard Loran, 69, died peacefully in his home early Friday morning, August 5, 2016. He was born September 17, 1946 in Utica, New York. He was the son of Osgood Francis Loran and Irene Dorothy Hall. A native of upstate New York, he graduated from New York Mills high school in June 1966. He went on to serve in the army as staff sergeant from November 22, 1966 and was honorably discharged on November 21, 1972. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for two years of that time, from 1966 to 1968 and was a heavy vehicle truck driver. After serving in the army, he went to SUNY and received an Associate Degree in Applied Science in 1973. A lover of music, he was the lead singer in a Rock and Roll cover band called Prism from 1972 to 1974. After college, he worked for WKTV in Utica. He moved to Millville, New Jersey in 1977 to work for HERON cable as a general manager. In New Jersey he was very involved in the community and in Kiwanis club.
Later he moved to Owego, New York to be the regional manager of Simmons Cable. He married Colleen Loran in Clay, NY on June 27, 1992. In 1993, he moved to Athens, GA to be general manager at Lake Cable and worked there for three years. After being downsized out of cable, he worked in the bakery at the Publix supermarket in Watkinsville for eight years, finally retiring on December 31, 2005. During his time in Athens, Georgia, he was involved in the choir and praise team at Church of the Nations, where he was a member for 23 years.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years Colleen Loran, and two children, Christian (son of previous wife Wendy Ford) and Christina (daughter of Colleen). He leaves two grandchildren by Christian: Katarina and John. In addition, he also leaves eight siblings behind, Robert Loran, Pat Yerger, Sylvia Tryon, Roger Loran, Judy Caperole, Dorothy Loran, Paul Loran, and Ken Loran.
A beloved husband and father, he will be greatly missed. He demonstrated true Biblical love and the fruits of the spirit in his day to day life.
A celebration service will be held in his honor in Athens, GA at Church of the Nations on Sunday, August 14, at 1:00pm. A second celebration service will be held on Saturday, August 20th at First Baptist Church in Elbridge, NY at 4pm.
