Richard Palmer was born in Danielsville on November 6, 1916, the son of Susan Burroughs Huff and Joseph Young Huff. He was the youngest of seven siblings. Growing up in Danielsville, he attended schools in Madison County. After graduating he attended classes at the University of Georgia then pursued a career in the retail clothing business, which took him to Elberton, Georgia, where he met and married Emily Brooks.
After his marriage he joined the Navy as an aviation machinist mate, and for the duration of WWII served in Atlanta, Georgia and St. Louis, Mo.
The following years saw a career in the insurance business, but fate took him to his final career as a banker at The Bank of Danielsville. He was instrumental in growing the bank to three branches and the ultimate sale to Century South Bank.
Richard Palmer Huff was a good man. His word was his bond and he participated in multiple charities, clubs and organizations. Like his parents before him, the Huffs were members of Danielsville Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon.
Emily and Palmer were dear friends with a large circle of Madison County friends who, along with neighbors and extended family, were an important part of their lives.
He was predeceased by his wife, Emily, their son Richard Palmer Huff, Jr., and his daughter-in-law, Rhonwyn V. Huff. He is survived by his son, Charles M. Huff of Charleston, SC, his granddaughter, Emily Palmer Huff and his grandson, Joseph Moran Huff, all of Charleston.
