Richard Hindman Bouldin, 80, of Watkinsville, died on Saturday, April 16, 2022.
Born and raised in Florence, Alabama, Richard attended the University of Alabama, where he majored in mathematics. He went on to receive his master's degree at the University of Chicago and was awarded his doctorate degree in mathematics from The University of Virginia. Dr. Bouldin moved to Athens in 1969 for a position at The University of Georgia, where he taught for almost thirty-six years before his retirement in 2005. He received the Beaver Teaching Award in 1984, served as head of his department from 1989 to 1992, and later served as the senior Associate Dean of Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. He additionally published several works on mathematics.
Dr. Bouldin loved to learn and was always eager for an intellectual discussion or debate. His interests ranged across topics, including economics, fitness, gardening, and many more. He both applied his knowledge to his own endeavors and shared it with others. He served in leadership positions and as a speaker in various local organizations.
Along with his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother and sister.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Laura Meredith (Wade); his son, Mark Bouldin; and grandson, Jaden Flynn.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 3:00pm, at Lord and Stephens West Chapel, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
