Winterville, GA - Richard L. Arven, 79, was born February 10, 1935, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015. Richard was born in Rochester Indiana to the late Victor and Mona Knotts Arven.
Richard is survived by his wife Donna (Horn), Winterville, GA and daughters Lora Gurak (Paul), GA; Karen Fritts (Josh), IN; Susan VanLue (Eric) IN; Christy Lansangan (Joel) FL; Alonna Arven, GA; sons Greg Arven NC; Steve Arven IN; Jason Arven, GA; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brothers Larry (Mary) Arven, IN; Albert Paul Arven, CA.
On July 27, 1962, he married the love of his life, Donna J. Horn; together they celebrated 52 years.
He was on the very first Rochester Zebra football team and was well known for his football and basketball skills. His height was an asset for the Zebras.
After high school he enlisted in the Navy and completed four years. To further his education he graduated from Western New Mexico University. He proudly served 16 years in the Air Force before his retirement. He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving his country for over twenty years.
He grew up on Lake Manitou, and just like his father he loved fishing and enjoying the great outdoors. He and his family enjoyed many travels to a variety of states and countries such as Germany, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka.
Richard was a very kind and selfless person who always put his family first.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 13 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens East Chapel, Athens, GA
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fulton County Welfare, Dept of foster care and adoptions.
