Athens - Rhudy Edwin Brownlee, 85, of Athens, passed away May 1, 2009. He retired as a bus/train operator with MARTA after 28 years of service and was one of the initial operators for MARTA's rapid rail system. He was a member of Porterdale Presbyterian Church and served as an elder from 1989 to 1992. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in law: Dr. Curt and Jane Cooper of Vernon Hills IL; Rick and Dyne Owens of Athens, GA; sister, Bonnie Cobb of Brooks GA; grandchildren: Mr. and Mr. Peter Christopher Smith of Island Lake, IL, Hillary Cooper of South Beloit, IL and Michael Cooper of Rockford, IL; great grandchildren: Megan Smith of South Beloit, IL; Zachary Smith of South Beloit, IL; and Michael Prate of Island Land, IL.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lord and Stephens East Funeral Home in Athens with Dr. Ted Moody officiating. Interment will follow in Athens Memory Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
