Rhoda Hoverson Pollock, age 89, of Athens, died July 13, 2013. Born in Beach, North Dakota on July 14, 1923, she grew up in eastern Montana. She never lost her love for the prairie and the Big Sky. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Phillip H. Pollock, Jr.; two children, Ann R. Myers of St. Augustine, and Hutch Pollock of Orlando; and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Pollock's family moved to western Montana in 1938. She was the Salutatorian of Gallatin County High School's Class of 1941 and earned a BS degree from Montana State University in botany and bacteriology. She was a Registered Medical Technologist and late in her professional career did blood-banking work, retiring in 1986.
Mrs. Pollock was a church musician and organist, first at Hope Lutheran in Bozeman, Montana, and later at Episcopal parishes in Oklahoma City, Dayton, Ohio, and Athens, Georgia.
She was very interested in her Norwegian heritage and made sure that immigrant items in her possession were donated to appropriate museums. Mrs. Pollock participated, often with her sister, in Elderhostel programs annually and maintained a large correspondence. She was an avid reader.
A memorial service will be held at St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church, Barnett Shoals Rd. at 10AM on July 27, 2013 with the Rev. Beth Long officiating.
