Frank E. Jenkins, 89, died Monday, September 19, 2011 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Logan, WV, he was the son of the late Frank Edward Jenkins and Sarah Maria Morris Jenkins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Polly Little Jenkins. Rev. Jenkins received his Masters of Theology from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He served in The North Georgia Conference of The United Methodist Church for 44 years in churches in Canon, Culloden, Ellenwood, Bowden, Tucker, East Point, Thomasville as District Superintendent, Athens at St. James UMC, Cartersville at Sam Jones UMC, Griffin as District Superintendent, Atlanta at Cokesbury UMC, Chaplain at Crawford Long Hospital and in Vaughn. He was also a Shriner with the Yaarab Temple and currently a member of Watkinsville First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Phronia Twiggs Smith Jenkins; sons and daughters in law: Frank E. and Vicki Jenkins III of Savannah, Morris L. and Molly R. Jenkins of Brevard, NC; grandchildren: Betsey M. Jenkins, Polly Blaine Jenkins, Elizabeth P. Jenkins and Henry M. Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 11AM at Watkinsville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Kanipe and Rev. Gary Whetstone officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Graveside services will be held at 4PM at Oak Hill Cemetery, Griffin, GA.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Frank E. Jenkins, Sr. Scholarship Fund.
