Rebecca Dawson Barnette

Rebecca Dawson Barnette, 97, Watkinsville, GA, widow of the late Milton Barnette, died on August 9, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Rebecca Barnette.
Rebecca (Becky) Dawson Barnette was born in Watkinsville, GA, on June 17, 1919, to the late Clifford and Hassie Daniell Dawson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Roy, Raymond, Ralph and Rayford Dawson; and three sisters: Sara Sue Norris, Selena Kate Dickens and Roberta Dawson Dellinger.
Rebecca (Becky) Barnette was a lifetime member of Union Christian Church. She graduated from Oconee County High School at Watkinsville, in 1936.
Survivors include one brother: Ruhl Dawson, Watkinsville, GA, and one sister, Sunie Nell Stewart of Gainesville, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Becky and Milton's daughter, Connie, suffered birth injuries in 1941, and lived with her disabilities until the age of 64 years in March 2006. Milton died on December 26, 1950. Becky was a lifetime caregiver for Connie. For a few years, Becky worked at SH Kress in Athens and in later years at Dawson's Grocery.
Connie & Becky were regular attendees at Union Christian Church and did not miss many important events while they were able to travel in the van with a lift and wheelchair. After retiring from Macy's in 1982, Becky's sister, Roberta Dawson Dellinger, also a widow, moved to Watkinsville and spent much time with Becky and Connie and helped with the wheelchair and van for over twenty years. The 'trio' was well-known around Oconee County and the Athens Area. Loving home care was provided by Wendell and Betty Dawson and Ned and Jean Dawson until Becky became a resident of Silverleaf of Athens Alzheimer's Assisted Living in April 2013.
Becky enjoyed preparing Sunday Dinner. She and Connie entertained many relatives, church friends and others over many years.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Union Christian Church with burial following in the Union Christian Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at the church. Rev Jane Hull will be officiating with eulogies by her niece Rev Colette Lane, Lexington, KY, and her grandniece, Jennifer M. Dawson, Marietta, Georgia.
Pall Bearers will be Earl Elsner, Mark Dawson, Ray Dawson, Tommy Daniel, Tommy Cape, Randy Dawson, Randy Maddox and Eddie Garrett. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Wanda Maxey, Sue Truluck, Diane Bales, members of the Senior Adult SS Class, and Elders at Union Christian Church.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff at Silverleaf of Athens Alzheimer's Center on Whitehead Rd, Athens, and Bridgeway Hospice for their care and concern for Becky as she became more dependent from Alzheimers.
Becky requested no flowers but one white rose on her casket, "I have had flowers in life by good people".
