Athens

Rev. Raymond Wayne Duncan, 92, of Athens, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2022.

Born in Hart County, GA, he was a son of the late Spurgeon and Ammie Lee Roach Duncan and husband of the late Helen Cromer Duncan.  He was preceded in death by brothers Joe and Frank Duncan.  After serving in the Navy, Raymond and Helen returned home to Georgia with their family as Athens residents beginning in 1955. He opened Flat Top Barber Shop in Downtown Athens and later an additional one on Baxter Street. The names were changed to Mr. Haircut and Custom Styles and are both still in operation today. He served over 60 years with the Congregational Holiness Church and pastored Grove Chapel CH Church for many years. Raymond was a successful businessman, barber, sportsman, pilot, pastor, mentor, and teacher. Most importantly, he was the most wonderful and adoring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to so many. Raymond lived life to the fullest and attributed all his success and blessings to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Survivors include his daughters Brenda Laskey of Marietta and Sibyl Ginn (Michael) of Athens; his son Dale Duncan (Kimberly) of Athens; his 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; his sister Jean Bass of Marietta.

He was a member of American Veterans Post 12 in Winder and was supportive of many Veteran and other charitable organizations.
