Melvin Ray King, 74, of Watkinsville, died on Monday, July 11, 2022.
He was born on December 18, 1947, in Greensboro, GA, to Melvin F King and Nora Christopher King. Ray graduated from Greene County High School, Class of 1966, and earned his degree from North Georgia Technical College before serving his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Ray worked in commercial heating and air and as powerhouse supervisor at Westinghouse. He enjoyed working on and collecting classic cars, camping, boating, fishing, and vacationing with his family. Ray and his wife, Beverly recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Ray was preceded in death by his brother Alan King and daughter Cynthia Leigh King.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Clay King; son Chad King; daughter Angela King Higginbotham; grandchildren: Blake King, Dustin King, Haleigh Padron, Mackenzie Higginbotham, Ryan Evans, Jocilyn Higginbotham, and Cayla Evans; great-grandchildren Ariella Cynthia Delgado and Arianna Amaia Delgado; and niece Shelia Lloyd.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 15, at Lord and Stephens, West Chapel at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Oconee Memorial Park.
