Ray Rabbon Hanson

February 16, 1941 — July 30, 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of Ray R Hanson announces his passing on Sunday, July 30, 2017. Visitation will be held on August 3, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:30 am with a memorial service immediately following at 11:30. Both will take place at Lord & Stephens, West.

Ray was a native of Athens. He was born in his home on February 16, 1941. He was one of eight children born to Jesse Bennet Hanson and Corrine Hill Hanson. His siblings were Cecil Hanson, Richard Hanson, Gary Hanson, Sue Dial and MaryLou Hammond. They had a baby sister as well that passed away at birth. He was married to Corrine Virginia Hanson on November 1, 1963 and they had two children together. Cindy Rae, now married to Sterling Thornton and Curtis Glen, now married to Susan Hanson. Ray had three grandchildren; Joshua Michael, now married to Rachel Thornton. Lindsey Rae, now married to Zachary Robinson and Mitch Hanson, currently a student at Georgia Tech. Ray had two great-grandchildren; Michael James and Kai William. Although his family will miss him greatly, they rejoice in knowing that they will see him again one day when they meet Christ in Heaven.

Ray was a charter member of Briarwood Baptist Church. He was the owner of Hanson Chevron on North Avenue for 25 years. He began Hanson Lock & Key in 1995 and worked actively until he entered the hospital on July 13, 2017. He was diagnosed with Aggressive Squamous Cell Lung Cancer on Monday morning, July 24, 2017 and passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, July 30, 2017. Ray went to meet his Savior never even knowing that he had cancer.
