Ralph Edward "Eddie C" Clawson Jr

Ralph Edward Clawson, Jr. fondly known to many as "Eddie C" age 62 died November 15, 2012 in Athens Georgia. Ed was born on June 5, 1950 in Richmond, Indiana to Peggy and Ralph Clawson. He was the youngest of eight siblings. He graduated from Lincoln High School Cambridge City, Indiana. Ed received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Purdue University in 1972 and attended the University of North Carolina Executive MBA program. He entertained himself on several occasions with advanced studies at Purdue, Indiana, Missouri, and North Carolina. Ed had a distinguished career in hospital administration from 1976 to his retirement in 1993. He worked in various hospitals throughout the country including St. Elizabeth's Hospital West Lafayette Indiana, Culver Union Hospital Crawfordsville Indiana, Central Carolina Hospital Sanford North Carolina, leading to his last appointment as the Vice President and C.O.O of AMI Columbia Regional Hospital in Columbia Missouri. During his AMI tenure, Ed coordinated several major building projects including the construction of AMI Culver Union Hospital and related expansion/remodeling at Columbia Regional Hospital. His talents were also leveraged at the request of AMI to work on several corporate- wide projects.
Ed was passionate about life, his family and friends.
He was an avid biker, known as the man on a motorized red tricycle scooting through the streets of Athens, and frequently styling a "Tilly" hat on his head. He was a life time member of the Zion's Lutheran Church, Pershing Indiana. He also served his communities in many ways acting as the coordinator of his local neighborhood association, as a volunteer to help non- profit organizations develop executive boards, and mentoring students in mathematics.
Ed is survived by Victoria (Vikki) McMullen Clawson, his loving wife of 40 years, and Madison Clawson his beloved dog. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Peggy and Ralph Clawson, and two brothers, Robert and Keith Clawson. He is survived by his siblings David Clawson (Gay) of Austin Texas, Ruth Ann Seffrin (Tim) of Hagerstown Indiana, Judy Shook (Ron) Garret Indiana, Linda Clawson Centerville Indiana, Diana Jo (Bertsch) Clawson Richmond Indiana, Mike Clawson (Fairlyn) Connersville Indiana, Jean Clawson Wonderly, Tucson Arizona. He is also survived by his sisters- in- law Lindee McMullen Czaja (Ray) Lansing Michigan, Terri McMullen Corona Hills California, Renee McMullen O'Brien (Tom) Naples Florida, and brothers- in- law Tom McMullen (Edie) Indianapolis Indiana, Tim McMullen (Beverly) Newport Beach California, many loving nieces and nephews and friends. He was supported by numerous devoted physicians and health care professionals through his life time and for that he was forever grateful.
A memorial service and reception celebrating his life will be held at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the Chapel on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 11:00 AM, 2450 S. Milledge Avenue Athens GA 30605.
There will be another memorial in Pershing, Indiana at the Zion's Lutheran Church, date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the UGA Foundation, designated for the Institute for Leadership Advancement (ILA), 394 S. Milledge Ave., Athens, GA 30602 or the Zion' Lutheran Church P.O. Box 6, 1151 South Germantown Road , Pershing, Indiana 47370 are most appreciated. Lord & Stephens East is in charge of arrangements.
