Raleigh Edward Taylor

February 23, 1946 — June 10, 2017

Raleigh Edward Taylor, 71, of Stephens, died June 10, 2017.
A lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, he was a son of the late Olin E., Sr. and Lois Osborne Taylor and was also preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Taylor and grandson, Michael Lamar Palmer. Raleigh held several jobs during his lifetime including employment at Thomas Textile, Dairy Queen, Cabaniss Dairy and Master Grave Service. He retired from Oglethorpe County Sheriff's Office following 20 years of service.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Community Church with Revs. B.G. Miller, Sr., Brent Lewis and Bobby Miller, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Palmer, Jimmy Fitts, Jeffrey Taylor, Sammy Price, Brandon Watkins, Carlot Seals, Greg Mattox and Josh Smith.
Oglethorpe County Sheriff's Office will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Martha Taylor; children, Donna Porter, John Taylor and Brantley Taylor; brother, Olin "Smiley" Taylor; sisters, Christine Compton and Brenda Price; grandchildren, Kimberley Taylor, Tyler Palmer, Michelle Donald, Kody Taylor, Brionna Taylor and Zachary Taylor.
The family will receive friends at Mt. Pleasant Community Church, 1244 Comer Road, Crawford, GA, Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
