Quinon Robert Coggins, 63, of Watkinsville, died on Monday, October 3, 2022.
Quinon was born in Buford, GA to the late Charlie Robert Coggins and Judy Coggins. He was exceptional from the very beginning: super smart, his family discovered he could already read when he started school. He remained an avid reader his entire life. An outstanding baseball player, he was scouted by the Atlanta Braves. When they realized how young he was, they told him they would be back, but a broken ankle ended his baseball career. He was an eternal student, always ready to learn all about whatever interested him at the time, whether it be EMT training, earning his real estate license, or dog training. Animals of all kinds were his true passion. He trained and showed dogs competitively, including whippets, bloodhounds, and award-winning Akitas. He worked for a veterinarian’s office and the Gainesville Humane Society and kept many exotic pets such as reptiles and poisonous frogs. But if asked, he would describe himself as a horseman: he was professional horse trainer for over 40 years, a past board member of the Georgia Quarter Horse Association, and competed in and judged many shows. He was an animal lover, a book lover, and a perennial learner, but above all, he was not just a good man, but “the best man,” a loving and beloved husband, father, son, and brother.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Candi Parker.
Quinon is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Anne Coggins; their daughter, Emily Coggins; sister Allene Hutson; two nephews, Steven Craig and Spencer Craig; and father-in-law Andrew McAlister.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Ashford Memorial Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends after the service.
